The former Archbishop of Sinai, Damianos, is “writing history” as the Archbishop of the BOUNCERS! Written by Sinaitic Hieromonk Archimandrite Arsenios

Ο πρώην Αρχιεπίσκοπος Σινά, Δαμιανός, «γράφει ιστορία» ως Αρχιεπίσκοπος των BOUNCERS!

Written by Sinaitic Hieromonk Archimandrite Arsenios

A dark page in the centuries-long history of the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine on the God-trodden Mount Sinai… Alas!! “…A time to speak”.

In recent months, the entire Brotherhood of the Holy Monastery of Sinai has been targeted by a vicious campaign of slander and defamation led by the now-deposed Abbot, Mr. Damianos, and his small but influential and well-connected circle. The pretext was the unethical submission by the Greek Ministry of Education of a monstrous draft law concerning the Monastery’s presence in Greece, without the slightest notification, let alone approval, of the Monastery’s Supreme Authority, which is the General Assembly of the Fathers.

The Brotherhood’s reaction to this coup-like action by the former Abbot, which violated the Monastery’s centuries-old constitutional operation, as well as his canonical—that is, entirely lawful—deposition from the Abbacy, provoked the wrath of Mr. Damianos. Through letters full of “brotherly love and charity,” he unleashed lies, insults, threats, and penalties against the “usurpers, rebels, and patricides,” among other resounding terms.

At the same time, a plethora of publications from both secular and ecclesiastical media, which uncritically and recklessly followed and continue to follow the narrative of Mr. Damianos—highly skilled in the art of hypocrisy, deception, and distortion of every truth—and his close circle (acting under his complete guidance and control), without ever, in adherence to basic journalistic ethics, approaching the Brotherhood to hear its own truth. Let them reflect on their responsibilities. The same applies to the grave responsibilities of the Greek Government, which we would very much like to believe was misled, though the facts prove its tragic inadequacy.

Faced with this paranoid barrage of deception and lies, the Brotherhood chose the path of silence, absolute adherence to canonical order—based on the Holy Canons and the Monastery’s Fundamental Regulations—and, above all, prayer. However, yesterday’s invasion of the Monastery by hired thugs and the violent expulsion of 12 brothers beyond the walls, using underworld and Mafia tactics, leaves no room for silence anymore. Following the conclusion of the Brotherhood’s General Assembly, which aimed to update two articles of the Monastery’s lawful Regulations—not the invalid “new revised” Regulations that Mr. Damianos unilaterally and unlawfully amended in ignorance of the Brotherhood and included as an appendix to the controversial draft law in the Government Gazette—a group of about 10 burly Egyptians, led by the new Ephialtes, the deposed Secretary Father Akakios, stormed the Monastery. With a venomous voice, he called on the Fathers to leave their cells because “the Bishop has arrived.”

What followed were scenes of unparalleled chaos, with the bounchers breaking doors and windows of an iconic monument of the Egyptian state and a world heritage site, assaulting and manhandling the Fathers, confiscating their mobile phones, taking their money and other belongings, while Mr. Damianos, like another Nero, and his Cohabitant (note of the translator: they are litteraly living together) Ms. Katerina Spyropoulou, watched together from the porch of the Episcopal residence, smirking at the Monastery’s pillaging. After expelling 12 Fathers beyond the walls, except for those aligned with Mr. Damianos—namely Fathers Porphyrios, Akakios, Ephraim, Justin, and Ioannis Metaxas—they sealed the Monastery, and with the hired guard inside, Mr. Damianos unlawfully convened a General Assembly in the presence of… 5 monks, and they even elected a… Holy Synod.
The expelled Fathers spent the night homeless in the open, within the framework of the paternal love of their former Abbot. In summary: Every place has its wounds. In Sinai, for the past 50 years, the wound bears the name Archbishop Damianos.

By trampling on the administrative structure and operation of the Monastery for 15 centuries, he established, through divide-and-conquer tactics, an autocratic, personality-driven regime, governing recklessly and irresponsibly, leaving the Monastery legally baseless and defenseless against the Egyptian state.

History will hold him accountable and record him as the fateful destroyer of the most historic Orthodox Christian Monastery in the world.
